Swanilda (2002)

The picture of Swanilda is based on a photograph of the dancer Suzanne Farrell, which struck me for its dramatic lighting, rendering it quite caravaggesque. There was an element of Caravaggio in my inspiration for all the portraits in the ballet paintings, though the pictures stand and fall depending on how good the source material was.
