Composition With Fragments I (2001)

This painting , and its companion, were for the Strauss dining room. As the consultancy neglected to specify which Strauss, in this painting I included a portrait of Johann Strauss I, and the other has Richard Strauss. The Greek sculpture is of a Muse (which is where the word music derives from), behind which are slices from Degas' painting The Orchestra of the Opera, below which is the Paris Opera, and one of Carpeaux's sculptural groups for the facade of the building.
